Time Travel: One of City's Current Busy Intersections Decades Ago and an Extinct Area Covered Bridge

By Dick Duez on November 07, 2021 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

This look familiar? For those who are not sure, the site today is the home of Sheetz at the intersection of Johnson Avenue and Lodgeville Road. The exact date is unknown but this also well before Simpson Square, the plaza behind Sheetz, was in place. Today, the area is one of the busiest intersections in the city and it is surrounded by business on all sides.
This photo was taken prior to 1950, although the exact date is unceratin. This covered bridge was located in Doddridge County and was sadly lost to history when, in 1950, it was washed away due to a flood.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection. , the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing effortsDuez to preserve local history.
