Time Travel: Removal of Holiday Plaza Traffic Barriers and a Rewind to Visit Clarksburg's St. Mary's Hospital

By Dick Duez on November 26, 2023 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The exact date and the history behind this photo is not clear. However, it shows members of Bridgeport's Fire Department removing barriers restricting vehicles of a certain height entering the then Holiday Plaza (today's Gabes Plaza). The barriers were eventually put back up and then eventually removed again. It is believed large trucks were coming into the plaza for the old donut business that was in place that led to the barrier. If you have any information on this photo, please add to the comment section down below.
Look familiar? It should for many. This is a photo of the old St. Marys Hospital in downtown Clarksburg that was situated on Chestnut Street and is no longer standing. It was part of what would become United Hospital Center. Photo is courtesy of Regina Lucente, who borrowed it from a friend's Facebook page.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dickdo@citynet.net.
