Time Travel: Revisiting an Iconic Bridgeport Business and Looking at Downtown Webster Springs Back in 1951

By Dick Duez on April 26, 2015 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Today, many of you recognize this building as the site of Via Veneto near the intersection of Platinum Drive and Route 58. For years, it was the home of Green Acres and many in Bridgeport have fond memories of the former business. We'd love to hear some of your favorite memories in the comment section below.

Like Clarksburg and so many other places in the 1950s, downtown Webster Springs was the place to be. This photo shows plenty of activity on a Saturday morning in 1951.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection. Duez, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at grinder12@frontier.com.
