Time Travel: School Safety Patrol Trip from 1950s and a 1948 Rewind to the Taylor County Fairgrounds

This photo is courtesy of Lisa Furbee Ford and shows some Bridgeport students on their way to Washington, D.C. for the annual school patrol trip. Her brother, Car Furbee, was not sure of the date of this photo, but believes it is from the 1950s. Any help on identifying anyone in this photo would be welcome. 
This photo, from 1948, is along U.S. Route 50 east of Bridgeport. It shows the Taylor County Fairgrounds. Does anyone have any memories of this once prominent fair?
