Time Travel: Staff of Bridgeport Fire Department 25 Years Ago and Stopping for Lodging on Route 50

By Dick Duez on December 11, 2016 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

See some familiar faces here? You very well should. This is a 1991 photo of the Bridgeport Fire Department that was led by the late Chief Kelly Blackwell, seventh from the left. If you know anyone else that is shown, please feel free to put them in the comment section below.
This was one of the many stops on old U.S. Route 50, this one at Aurora is the Fairlea Motel. In 1836 the North Western Virginia Turnpike was built from Romney to Parkersburg. If Harrison County travelers wanted to go east by road  the turnpike was the way; Many businesses along Route 50 are, for the most part, just a memory. This photo believed to be from the 1950s or 1960s.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection. Duez, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dick.do@frontier.com.
