Time Travel: The City's Unofficial Historian's Wedding Day and JFK Dining in Huntington Back in 1960

By Dick Duez on March 28, 2021 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Anyone recognized this prominent Bridgeport couple? It shows a young Richard "Dick" Duez and his late wife Norma Dale Lazzelle on their wedding day on Feb. 27, 1965 at All Saints Catholic Church with Father Charles Carroll in the background. He is flanked by Sandy Hooper and Jim Swager. The photo was taken by another prominent Bridgeport businessman, the late Bob Nichols.
This photo is from 1960, as is written in the corner of it. It shows John F. Kennedy campaigning in his run for President of the United States and having lunch at a restaurant that still operates today and has this photo in it - Jim's Steak & Spaghetti in Huntington. Ken Hechler, who served for years as West Virginia Secretary of State, is shown to the right of Kennedy. In the middle, and toward the back, is David Fox Jr.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection. Duez, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dick.do@citynet.net.
