Time Travel: Trio of Legendary BHS Educators and State Youth Helping WWII New York Tomato Harvest

By Dick Duez on October 11, 2015 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Do these three men look familiar? They should for many in Bridgeport and beyond. In this 1978 photo from the Bridgeport Ki-Cu-Wa Yearbook - from left - are Bill Montgomery, the late Larry Burner and Hugh Gainer. The trio are looking at some items they acquired at local auctions.
These youngsters are high school students from Richwood taking a train to upstate New York to help with the tomato harvest in 1942 due to a shortage of laborers during World War II.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection. Duez, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history.
