Time Travel: Way Back to Bridgeport Stockyards and a 1952 Trip to the Forest Festival Parade in Elkins

By Dick Duez on December 12, 2021 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Although it has been gone for decades, it is likely many in Bridgeport and beyond still remember the Bridgeport Stockyards just off of Main Street. The date of this photo is unknown, but the cars shown in the foreground taking advantage of Tuesday sales likely place this in the early part of the 1900s. If you have any memories of this former business, please put them in the comment section below.
This photo is from the still ongoing Forest Festival Parade that takes place annually in the City of Elkins. This was taken in 1952 and the float is for the Dutch Oven Bakery.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection. , the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing effortsDuez to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dickdo@citynet.net.
