After the better part of two years, we are seeing live events once again popping up. We are fortunate in the Bridgeport area to have so many activities for adults, kids and families.

Just opened in February, Market on Main artisan boutique hosts a fun flow of classes and workshops. All the following Market on Main classes/workshops will be held at its facility at 103 West Main Street, Bridgeport.

This Saturday, March 18, will feature a poppy oil painting class from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Orchestrating the workshop will be regional artist, Brook Jewell aka BJewell, whose oil paintings are available for purchase on a regular basis at Market on Main. To check availabity or register, visit the BJewell Studio Facebook page HERE.

Sunday, March 20 will be a kids' "Paint a Pot and Pot a Plant" class. To be held 2:30-4 p.m., the hands-on workshop is co-hosted by Roaming Roots and BJewell Studio. Brook Jewell will teach painting terra cotta with acrylic paint and encourage kids to be creative. While she seals the pots, kids will pick out their plant, which Roaming Roots owner Leslie Toothman will teach how to pot and take care of it. The cost is $15. Register HERE

On Friday, March 24, Market on Main will offer a DIY spring door hanger welcome sign class, led by Pomstudio Co. The cost is $50. You can sign up HERE

Another kids' class by BJewell will be held Monday, March 28 at 3:30 p.m. This time, the kiddos will create their own oil painting. Each child must be accompanied by an adult, who will also create an oil painting. Cost includes snack, two canvases and everything needed to create the masterpieces. Purchase a ticket/register HERE

Market on Main owners Leslie Toothman and Perris Reed like extending these opportunities for adults and kids to be able to try a new hobby - whether that be learning more about live plants, creating a piece of art. They certainly plan to add more classes to the lineup. Keep an eye on the Market on Main Facebook page. Registration is being handled by the individual conducting the class.

My Little Cupcake whips up more than delicious treats at 142 West Main Street. A series of kids' workshops follow the recent Mosaic Paper Shamrock class offered March 16.

"We've been doing kids' day for a while. We have three kids, so we know how hard it is to find places to take them and let them run around and be kids," said Crislip, who owns MLC with his wife Kacey. "There aren't a lot of places where kids can come, get food and do activities under one roof; a place for kids and families to come and have fun."

To cover cost of materials, there is a minimal cost for each class - and a cupcake is provided. The activities are open to kids of all ages, unless otherwise specified. Each child must be accompanied by an adult and often, Crislip said, that adult is a grandparent.

Coming up April 14 is a Wooden Easter Egg Paint class. The craft can completed at MLC anytime between 11 a.m. through 6 p.m.

On May 5 is a Mother's Day Card-making class using cupcake liners. That, also will be offered 11 a.m. through 6 p.m.

The next event - scheduled for May 26 - is an interactive play date from 11 a.m. through 4 p.m. The cost for this activity is $1 per child.
Register for any MLC activities by calling the store, 304-933-3444. Stay up to date on other upcoming kids' days at the My Little Cupcake Facebook page.

Marsha Greathouse has two Easter-themed painting classes coming up.  Saturday, March 19 will feature the "Crowned Bunny" from 1-3 p.m. This class will be held at Elison Assisted Living at Maplewood. The painting will be done on a 12x26 canvas. The cost is $20, which includes all materials to paint, snacks, wine and soft drinks. Register by calling or texting Greathouse at 304-203-7365.

Greathouse will also teach a whimsical "Bunny Butt" painting class on Saturday, March 26 at Benedum Civic Center. This class is sponsored by Bridgeport Parks and Recreation. It starts at 1 p.m. and the cost is $20, which includes everything needed to create the painting. Register by calling 304-842-8240.

While we're on the subject of Parks & Rec - and Easter - don't forget the City of Bridgeport Easter Egg Hunt for preschoolers, 2 p.m., Thurs., April 7 at The Bridge Sports Complex. Thousands of filled eggs will be up for grabs for kids ages 1-5 and the Easter Bunny will be on hand. No registration is necessary. Just show up!

JUST ADDED: Sweet Events on Boothsville Road will host two cooking-decorating cl
asses - for kids 2-3 p.m. on Saturday, April 9 and for adults 2-
4 p.m. on Sunday, April 10.

The kids' class is $40 per child (must be accompanied by an adult). Sibings will get a price break.

"Kids will learn the basics of royal icing including outlining, flooding, and wet-on-wet techniques," said Sweet Events owner Megan Oliverio. "Along with the use of sparkling sugar, they will create a bright set of four classic Easter cookies!" (See right)

Class will wrap up with a snack and Easter punch. Register at the Sweet Events Facebook page. Detailed directions will be included upon registration.

The adult class is $55 each. Participants will create a set of five garden-themed Easter sugar cookies. (See left)

"You'll learn about royal icing consistencies, how to outline, flood, create texture and design a variety of florals - all of this while having a relaxing and fun afternoon," Oliverio said. "There will also be a selection of Easter treats from Sweet Events to enjoy during class."
