FREE eBooks Available at YOUR Public Library

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on April 11, 2014 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Public Libraries in Harrison, Taylor, Doddridge, and Gilmer counties offer their patrons access to FREE downloadable eBooks! eBooks are digital copies of books accessible through either the WV DELI or West Virginia Reads – online databases available to library card holders, depending on their library’s membership. Library eBooks are circulation items for patrons to borrow. At the end of the checkout period, the eBook expires and is automatically returned to the online database for others to use. Your library card gives you 24 hour a day access to best sellers in a digital format for you to read on your eReader, tablet, or phone for FREE!

Most libraries in West Virginia are members of either the WV DELI or West Virginia Reads. Their membership requires their contributing purchase of eBooks to the collection. The entire collection is available to library patrons of any of the member libraries. As a result, patrons holding a card with a WV DELI member library have access to over 30,000 downloadable items. Card holders of a West Virginia Reads member library have access to over 17,000 downloadable items, respectively. Ask your library how to access their eBook collection today!

Technology training courses focusing on downloading eBooks will be offered in libraries in Harrison, Taylor, Gilmer, and Doddridge counties throughout May, June, and July. Stay tuned for dates of these events!

About the West Virginia Technical Assistance Broadband Grant Program
The intent of the Technical Assistance Grant Program is to fund broadband-related train-the-trainer programs, education, and online application development. A total of $677,625 in grant funds, in amounts between $5,000 to $30,000, was awarded in 2012 in a first round of
competitive awards. A second round of competitive awards totaling $842,213 was awarded early in 2014.
The goal of the Technical Assistance Grant Program is to enable education and application development on broadband services and internet applications that are currently available, or due to become available, as broadband infrastructure is installed across the state.

In the course of her college career, she worked for the Tazewell County, Virginia Public Library system where she assisted with public reading programs and circulation. It was there that she was introduced to Overdrive, as the library had just begun to establish an audiobook collection (this was before the time of eBooks). After graduation, Hankins taught middle and high school English in Virginia. Most recently, she worked as an independent contractor serving Consol Energy's three northern West Virginia coal mines in their land department.
