At 8 a.m. Saturday, April 12, registration began for the 1st Annual Softball Clinic for area girls and boys ages 6 – 11 years old.  The clinic was held at Bridgeport Middle School and was led by Coach Vernon Louk of Bridgeport Middle School.

There were 56 participants and enough players from area middle and high school softball teams to utilize a "buddy" for every participant. Coaches and players assisting were Larry Snider and Mary Mayer of RCB High School, Karson Barnhart and Chris Underwood of South Harrison High School, Frank Lopez of Bridgeport High School, Hartzel Keener of Grafton High School, Steve Howard of South Harrison Middle School, Billy Estok and Vernon Louk of Bridgeport Middle School, and several Bridgeport Middle School fathers.

The clinic was free to all those in attendance.  John Ebert, owner of the local McDonald’s, welcomed everyone to the clinic and showed the correct way to pitch, throw and catch the softball.  Crista Randolph, Physical Ther
a
pist from Bridgeport Physical Therapy, showed all participants the correct way to stretch and warm up prior to playing a ball game. Participants were divided up into age groups, each attending four sessions of infield, outfield, base running and hitting. Special pitching instructions were gi
ven to 10- and 11-year-olds attending.

The clinic was such a huge success. Plans are already underway for next year.
