3rd Annual Pierpont Community & Technical College Aviation Fair in City Draws 20 Companies, Big Crowd

According to WDTV, Pierpont Community & Technical College hosted its 3rd annual aviation career fair this morning.
 
Pierpont is aiming for the skies. Over 20 companies, from aviation to electric work, were on hand for the community and technical college’s aviation job fair; student Travis Myers was excited about the opportunity to connect with potential employers.
 
“It’s awesome getting able to explore all the other companies; seeing what they have to offer is a great opportunity,” said Travis Myers, Pierpont Airframe- Powerplant Technician student.
 
The event was open to the public, and the 150 students who attended got an inside look at a growing industries that need their help.
 
“Boeing projects a shortage of 160,000 technicians over the next 20 years, as the airport in North Central West Virginia continues to expand,” said Dr. Brad Gilbert, Pierpont, Senior Professor and Director of Aviation Technology.
 
The Aviation program at Pierpont has been going strong for 30 years, and the director says days like today’s highlight their mission of student success- for a lifetime.
 
“Ya know what, this does my heart good, to see these students that are just starting in in their career field to get good job offers. I’m in the program now. I see three or four second generation students,” said Gilbert.
