Construction work has begun on a 55-acre recreational complex in Mylan Park, officials announced Wednesday.

 

The $40 million Mountaineer Center will host competitive and recreational pools, as well as a new track and field complex. The track and field portion is scheduled to open in fall 2018 and the aquatic areas will open in the spring of 2019.

 

“We are ecstatic to be a part of this project. These facilities will fill a void that will not only benefit our citizens but open the door for new economic development,” Monongalia County Commission President Ed Hawkins said on behalf of the Commission, which unanimously endorsed the project.
