71 Area Teens Attend YoungLife Camp in Virginia

Just imagine 71 teenagers without phones for a week.  Chaos, right? Not at all, according to YoungLife Director Nathaniel Lutyens, who just escorted the group to  Goshen, Virginia to attend the Rockbridge Alum Springs YoungLife Camp.  “Our week was jam-packed with clean fun, high adventure, laughter, challenging messages about the gospel and deep conversations,” said Lutyens.

Lutyens is well known around Harrison County as he and his wife, Gina, connect with teens on an authentic level to help them grow in their faith.  YoungLife meets weekly throughout the school year and features fun activities along with messages about God.  The 71 high school students who attended the camp have been anticipating it throughout the entire year.

“We always tell the kids that camp will be the best week of their lives,” said Lutyens.  “They rarely believe it till they go and then we hear about how great it was all the way back.”  It’s easy to understand why.  With zip-lining, climbing walls, ropes courses, and the new rock water slide, the teens are given plenty of opportunities to bond.

They also attend sessions in “club” activities, which include group discussions, spiritual lessons, skits and competitions. “Our kids were always the first in line for club.  They were deeply impacted by the gospel and out of the 71 who attended, 25 made commitments to follow Jesus!”

YoungLife will be kicking off the 2015-16 school year in a few weeks.  They will be holding a fundraising dinner on September 20 to help raise money to send more teens to camp next year.  More information about YoungLife can be found by contacting Lutyens at nathaniellutyens@gmail.com.
