Bridgeport Police, Fire and EMS departments responded to a 6:31 a.m. accident near the 125 mile marker of Interstate 79.

“It was a two-vehicle, T-bone type collision,” said Bridgeport Police Officer Mike Hammond. “A driver failed to yield to oncoming traffic.”

The accident happened when a GMC Sierra, exiting the 125 off-ramp (Saltwell) onto Route 131 failed to yield to a Ford Escort which was traveling southbound on Route 131.

The driver of the GMC is from Spraggs, Pa. The driver of the Ford Escort is from Hepzibah. He sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported by Bridgeport EMS to United Hospital Center.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene, Hammond said.

As the accident occurred during morning commute time, there was a fair amount of traffic backed up. Bridgeport Fire/EMS personnel were on the scene to direct traffic.
