Airport Authority Discusses AIP Grant Bids, Plans for Busy Summer Season

The Benedum Airport Authority approved a motion to allow its executive board to approve or disapprove Airport Improvement Program grant bids during Wednesday’s meeting.
 
There are two AIP projects in the works, a pavement management study and one involving a security vehicle project.
 
According to Deputy Airport Direct Shawn Long the pavement management study bid came back at $105,000. The security vehicle project bid was scheduled to open today.
 
Also on Wednesday, the board approved a bid for an earth-moving project in the amount of $10.8 million to Alex Wolfe.
 
In his director’s report, Airport Director Rick Rock said that passenger numbers are getting better and they have their sights set on a busy summer. In fact, eight interns will be brought on to help with to help with the anticipated busy summer schedule. The interns are scheduled to start on Monday.
 
As of right now, the Airport is looking at a 23 flights per week schedule in the summer.
 
Other business at Wednesday’s meeting included an update by Tracy Miller, president of the Mid Atlantic Aerospace Complex, on recent MAAC activities.
 
The board discussed two matters in executive session involving the taxiway design and the lease for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
