Bridgeport City Council has a busy agenda in store for Monday night's meeting at Bridgeport Municipal Complex.

As October is a big month for awareness efforts, two different proclamations will be presented during the meeting’s initial segment.

“We’re presenting a proclamation to West Virginia Healthy Workplace declaring the week of Oct. 19-25 as Freedom from Workplace Bullying Week and we’re also presenting one to HOPE, Inc. recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month,” said City Clerk Andrea Kerr.

Another item listed under the Awards and Presentations portion of the meeting is a grant presentation by Access Midstream, a growth-oriented midstream natural gas service which develops and acquires midstream energy assets in the United States.

“Representatives from Access Midstream will be presenting the city with a check for $5,000 to be used by the fire department,” Kerr said.

Bridgeport Fire Chief Robert Seccuro said those funds will be utilized to purchase HazMat equipment.

City Engineer Tom Brown will then present to Council a report of activities for the fiscal year. Brown’s report is the first to be presented during the current budget cycle, Kerr said.

Following any public comment, Council will engage in new business, starting with the consideration and approval awarding the city’s current audit contract to Tetrick & Bartlett.

Following will be a recommendation by Council of individuals to replace former mayor, Mario Blount, on the Central West Virginia Transit Authority board. The names which Council will submit for consideration are Councilor John Wilson and Chris McCarthy. McCarthy currently sits on the Bridgeport Police Civil Service Commission.

There will also be some action taken with regard to the Economic Opportunity Development District. That body, Kerr said, carries out various business with the consent of the Harrison County Commission and West Virginia Economic Development Authority. Board members determine what is in the best interest of the TIF District, as well as the tax payers, she said. Currently serving are Chairman Mike Romano, Deborah Varner, Ted Lopez, Rob Stuart, Mark Delana and Rick Rock. One spot, previously filled by former mayor, Mario Blount, is vacant. His replacement will be discussed at Monday night’s meeting.

Monday’s meeting will also feature the appointment of various individuals to serve on city boards.

“We’ll be reappointing Doug Gray and Rodney Kidd to the Bridgeport Planning Commission,” said Community Development Director Randy Spellman. “They have both been on the commission for several years and have both agreed to serve another three-year term.”

Likewise, Drew Pomeroy and Jeffery L. Barger will be appointed to the Bridgeport Development Authority, each for a three-year term.

“Drew Pomeroy is being reappointed and Jeffery Barger is replacing Bill Haller,” Spellman said.

Council will thereafter take care of any budget revisions and/or authorizations which may arise during the course of the meeting and, if needed, enter into executive session to discuss matters involving the sale or lease of property, personnel matters, and advance construction planning which, if made public, might adversely affect the interests of the city.

Monday’s meeting will get under way with a 6:15 p.m. work session, during which the city’s new Veterans Memorial will be discussed. Attending will be Richard Forren of Omni Associates. Regular session will be under way at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
