Annual City Engineer's Report, Scrapping of Dec. 24 Council Meeting Part of Tonight's Limited Agenda

Although Bridgeport will likely have one or two more special City Council meetings prior to the end of the year, the final regular meeting of the governing body will likely be this evening.

On what is a relatively light agenda, Council will look to cancel the regularly scheduled meeting of the month. The reason for the cancelation is that it falls on Monday, Dec. 24 – Christmas Eve.

That decision, and a few others, will be made during tonight's gathering of Council. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. with a work session scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

While many of the items are formalities, there is one issue beyond the vote on scrapping the Dec. 24 meeting that will take a little bit of time. Beth Fox, Bridgeport’s City Engineer, will provide Council with her department’s annual report.

“They randomly do these,” said Bridgeport Mayor Andy Lang. “In a couple of months from now it will likely be the fire department and then someone else. We’ll work our way through all of the departments.

“This is done to allow the department heads to go into detail about their department,” Lang continued. “Typically, the city manager will discuss briefly during our meetings the status of various projects in various departments. This will allow for a detailed look at projects and plans and give Council the opportunity for questions and answers about what’s going on.”

In other business, Council will look to reappoint Patrick Jeffers to the Bridgeport Planning Commission for a term of three years. Also, Council will look to appoint two ballot commissioners for the 2019 Levy Election in Lisa McKitrick and Carole Kinard along with appointing the poll workers.

The meeting will include a public forum for anyone wishing to address the city’s governing body. Also, there will be reports from Lang and City Manager Kim Haws.

The meeting will begin with an invocation by Pastor Brad Harris of the Simpson Creek Baptist Church. The session at the Bridgeport Municipal Complex is open to the public.
