Annual Simpson Creek Baptist Church Christmas Cantata Set for This Weekend

By Trina Runner on December 16, 2017 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The Simpson Creek Baptist Church Annual Cantata is a local holiday tradition that has stood the test of time.  Each year, the musical talents of the choir, instrumentalists and special guests are showcased on the stage in order to pay tribute to the birth of Christ.

The Cantata’s theme this year is The Silence and The Sound, with the silence portion representing what life was like before Christ and the Sound portion rejoicing His birth through joyful music and readings.

“The Cantata was written by famed Christian music writer Heather Sorenson,” said Choir Director and organizer Rayme Pullen.  “The theatrical presentation of the Christmas story comes alive on stage and we are very excited for everyone to have the opportunity to attend.”

This year’s production includes 40 choir members, a small group of children, two child soloists, an adult soloist, nine Chamber Orchestra members and Nancy Cleghorn accompanying on the piano and organ. There will also be periods of text and narrations to enhance the performance.

“Each year, we try to celebrate the season with new songs.  The show has become a tradition for many families and we like to mix it up  little while still staying true to the Christmas story,” said Pullen.  “The contrasting styles of the first part and last part add an interesting dynamic to the show.”

The Simpson Creek Baptist Church is located at 231 West Philadelphia Avenue in Bridgeport and the show is free and open to the public.  The Contata will be performed twice:  Saturday, December 16, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, December 17 at 2 p.m.
