Associated Businesses of Bridgeport Launches 2021 Main Street Scarecrow Display and Contest

By Julie Perine on September 13, 2021 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Last year it was the SpongeBob scarecrow created by Hearing Solutions Services, Inc. that took top honors in the Associated Businesses of Bridgeport Scarecrow Display & Contest.

Get your thinking caps on Bridgeport business owners. It’s about time for the 2021 event.

All dues-paying ABB members may register to display a scarecrow by filling out the attached form and sending to Hilary Gonzalez. Thereafter, a Main Street light post will be assigned. Then, the fun begins. Scarecrows can be created and must be displayed no later than Sunday, Oct. 10.

Year after year, the creativity is impressive, said ABB President Doug Marquette. Last year’s entries included everything from superheroes and skeletons to clowns and the “Hocus Pocus” trio.

City residents and visitors enjoy the display and it is asked that scarecrows be displayed facing oncoming  traffic for optimal viewing. The name of the business should be included in the display.

As is tradition, photos of all scarecrows will be posted to Connect-Bridgeport where voting will be open Tues., Oct.  12 through Friday, Oct. 29.

“All displays must be removed by Tuesday, Nov. 2 except for the winning scarecrow, which will remain on display through Friday, Nov. 5,” Gonzalez said.

That winning entry will be announced via Connect-Bridgeport on Halloween, Sunday, Oct. 31. That business will thereafter be awarded the traveling plaque for display.

"I think this event is just all-around fun for not only the Associated Businesses of Bridgeport, but the community as well," Gonzalez said. "It also gives the small businesses a fun and creative way to advertise."
