Autistic Teen - Lewis County Homecoming Queen Jaclyn Kovach - Recognized Nationally for Dance Ability, Artistic Expression

An autistic high school senior in Lewis County is being awarded for her accomplishments by a special education association. The teen is one of only 12 award winners in the country.
 
In Jaclyn Kovach's household, the word "can't" doesn't exist. She's overcome a lot of obstacles by having confidence in herself. Kovach was diagnosed with autism when she was five years old. Her mother says she wasn't able to make conversation until she was ten.
 
Kovach had a lot of balance and sensory issues, but now has won this award for her dancing. She says she used to be really shy. Now she's the homecoming queen and winning dance competitions. Kovach beat the odds with her belief in her abilities.. She says it's a message anyone can follow if they try.
 
"No matter where you come from you can do anything. Just have faith in yourself and just try," said Jaclyn Kovach. "It made me cry one day.
