Awards and Presentations Set to Return to Council Meeting; Five Bridge Items Under New Business on Agenda

By Chris Johnson on April 23, 2021 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Mayor Andy Lang had mentioned during the last regular City Council meeting that he would like to see awards and presentations make their way back to City Hall.

A casualty of COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions, there have been little of either since during the past year.

However, on Monday there are two on the agenda as there will be a proclamation for sexual assault awareness month and a presentation of life saving awards to Derek Stallman and Bladen Smart.

Also falling under the awards and presentations header will be the swearing in of three police officers – Robert Gregor, William Townsend and Austin Zorick.

All three items will take place before the City moves on to new business on the agenda and there is a full slate of it on tap.

Five of the items center around The Bridge Sports Complex. Council will consider and act on the approval of two payments to The Albert M. Higley Company out of Cleveland for continued work at The Bridge. One is for the February payment in the amount of $1,136,792.80 and the other is the March payment in the amount of $1,148,135.80.

Council will also consider and act upon the a contract with H2I Group out of West Columbia, S.C. for delivery and installation of tip and roll and team bleachers. The contract is for the amount of $42,500.

A contract with Capitol Business Interiors of Charleston in amount of $116,151.69 for the delivery and installation of furnishings for the Bridge will be considered and acted upon by Council.

The final piece of Bridge business will be to discuss and act on The Bridge Sports Complex construction, financing, utilities, communications and management in addition to ratify, approve and confirm settlement agreement with Genesis Partners and others dated April 7, 2021.

Also on the agenda is a recommendation by the Bridgeport Development Authority for a façade improvement grant for Roger and Mary Ann Murray for the Murray, Queen and Company building at 118 East Main Street.

Council is expected to award a paving contract to the low bidder for the City Park Trails Project and approve election workers for the June 8 municipal election.

The final order of new business on the agenda is the consideration for approving a revision to the fiscal year 2021 general fund budget.

There is no work session planned for Monday, so the regular meeting will begin at 7 p.m. with an invocation by Pastor Robin Ray and the Pledge of Allegiance.
