BHS Alum, Purple Heart Recipient, and Former Area Postmaster, Danny R. Daugherty, Passes at Age 72

Danny R. Daugherty, 72, of Clarksburg, passed away Sunday morning, October 10, 2021, at his residence following a brief illness.
 
He was born in New Martinsville on July 22, 1949, a son of the late Friend F. and Wilma Jean Daugherty.
 
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Linda K. (Beech) Daugherty, whom he married December 16, 1967.
 
Also surviving are two sons, Keith W. Daugherty and his wife Morgan, of Lost Creek and Chad M. Daugherty, of Clarksburg; a grandson, Joseph A. Daugherty, who meant the world to him; a brother, Chuck Daugherty and his wife Kay of The Villages, FL; a sister, Ruth Ann Jeffries and her husband Harley, of Bridgeport; several nieces and nephews; as well as his Yorkie best friend, Pickles.
 
Danny was a graduate of Bridgeport High School, Class of 1967. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and received the Purple Heart for wounds Received in Action on November 24, 1969, in Vietnam.
 
He worked for the US Postal Service, last serving as the Post Master in Grafton, retiring in August 2003 after 35 years of service.
 
He most recently attended St. James Catholic Church. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and gardening. He was a member of the Combat Purple Heart Association, WV Purple Heart Association and the Lifetime member of VFW Post #573.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, where Military Funeral Honors will be accorded by the Harrison County Honor Guard and the Army National Guard Honor Guard, Camp Dawson.
