UPDATE: Bridgeport also claimed first place in Saturday's Splash Invitational at West Virginia Wesleyan College. Sarah Stallman had the only victory in an individual event. A girls' relay team also took a first place. More information is forthcoming.

Original Saturday morning post:
Bridgeport boys and girls both claimed victories at Friday’s Harrison County All-County Championship Swim Meet and Bridgeport High School sophomore Sarah Stallman shattered two county records.

Stallman said she was certainly very happy to claim first-place finishes and break records in the 100-freestyle and 200-individual medley events, but that breaking records wasn’t what was on her mind when she entered the water last night at the Harrison County YMCA.

“I wasn’t really thinking too much about the records until people started talking about it – and then I started to get a little nervous,” she said. “But that wasn’t my all-time goal. I just wanted to get my best times in my events and that would have even been fine – though everyone was wanting me to break them.”

Stallman is already looking ahead and knows how she can put those record-breaking times to good use.

“I need fast times to decide what the best events would be for states,” she said.

Stallman was just as excited about her team’s win and her teammates’ performance as she was her individual victories.

“I’m just so proud of everyone,” she said.

The BHS girls finished the meet with 138 points, landing in first place by a very large margin. Notre Dame finished second with 52 points, Robert C. Byrd with 45 points, Lincoln High with 16 points and Liberty with 14 points.

For the boys, the Indians finished with 121 points. Again, Notre Dame finished second with 68 points. Robert C. Byrd and Liberty finished third and fourth, with 51 and 21 points, respectively.

Both BHS boys and girls finished first in the 200-yard medley relay. The first-place girls’ team of Stallman, Megan Lehosit, Jenna Soltesz and Catie Wilson finished in 2:07.68, more than seven seconds ahead of RCB. The boys’ team of Harrison Hess, John Carter, Devin McIntyre and Kyle Malcolm completed their race in 1:51.76, beating Notre Dame by more than three seconds.

Other key races included the 200-yard freestyle events. For the girls, Lehosit took first, freshman Allison Hess claimed second and Caroline Ferrell claimed third. In the boys’ race, McIntire finished first and freshman Phillip Malenich claimed third.

Stallman completed her record-breaking 200-yard IM in 2:19.99 with teammates Soltesz and freshman Cheri Signorelli taking second and third place with times of 2:37.02 and 2:40.54, respectively.

Carter won the 200-yard IM, finishing in 2:18.09. The Indians’ Viktor Rodriquez claimed fourth in 2:37.32.

BHS Junior Catie Wilson took first place in the 50-yard freestyle race with a time of 27.15, immediately followed by teammate Maria Lacaria, 27.75.

Soltesz finished second in the 100-yard butterfly and teammate, freshman Vaughn Vincent finished fourth.

In the boys’ 100-yard butterfly, McIntyre finished first and Rodriquez finished second.

The girls’ 100-yard freestyle was won by Stallman with her record-breaking time of 55.77. Wilson finished second in 1:02.75 and Lacaria third in 1:02.77.

Smith finished third in the boys’ 100-yard freestyle. His time was 56.49. Claiming first place in that event with a time of 56.49 was Chase Riggs, who lives in Bridgeport, but swims for Notre Dame.

Signorelli and Ferrell claimed second and third place, respectively, in the 500-yard freestyle with Malenich finishing first for the boys in the same event.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, BHS boys and girls again took first place. The girls’ team of Wilson, Lacaria, Signorelli and Stallman finished in 1:51.01 and the boys’ team of Smith, McIntyre, Hess and Carter finished in 1:39.63.

Bridgeport’s Jaryn Dodrill claimed third place in the 100-yard backstroke and Hess finished first for the boys in the same event with a time of 1:01.71.

Lehosit claimed a second place in the 100-yard breaststroke, followed by teammate Kaitlyn Pinti in third. For the boys, Carter and Mac Madden finished first and second respectively.

In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Signorelli, Ferrell, Soltesz and Lacaria won in 4:24.47. The boys’ team of Malenich, Malcolm, Ryan Knapp and Titus Smith claimed second place with 3:58.59.
