Bridgeport High School Homecoming week kicks off Wednesday with the annual Homecoming Parade. Featuring units including the homecoming court, class floats, BHS marching and alumni bands, cheerleaders and football team, the procession begins at 6 p.m. in the vicinity of Philadelphia Avenue and Main Street. After proceeding up Philadelphia Avenue onto Johnson Avenue, the parade winds up at BHS. The parade is organized each year by the BHS Key Club.

As they have in recent years, members of the Key Club will collect canned food items for Shepherd’s Corner. BHS students are also welcome to bring items to school to benefit the food drive. During the past couple of years, the canned food drive has brought in several hundred cans of food which were distributed to locals through Shepherd’s Corner.

Bridgeport Police Department advises residents that as of 5 p.m. Wednesday, Center Street and
Philadelphia Avenue - from the Main Street intersection through the Johnson Avenue intersection and extending to Bridgeport High School - will be closed and will reopen to traffic at the conclusion of the parade.

This year’s homecoming attendants are as follows: Freshmen Addison Boggs and Emmaleigh Perine; sophomores Grace Ebert and Kirstin George; juniors Victoria Catania and Sophia Lopez; and seniors Taylor Abraham, Hannah Allen, Autumn Fiest, Courtney Freeman, Gabriela Hemeon, Lindsay Knight, Emily McCarthy, and Quinn Stalnaker. Minor Court members are Della AnnMarie McQuaid, Brooks King, Tripp Matthews and Amayah Clark.

The homecoming court will be formally introduced at a BHS Homecoming Assembly to take place Thursday. The assembly will also feature games as planned by Student Council and performances by the BHS Jazz Band, BHS Danceline and other student entertainers.

On Friday, the Indian football team will play host to East Fairmont. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Prior to the game, the winners of the class float competition will be announced and at halftime, one of the senior attendants will be crowned homecoming queen and the runner-up will be named maid of honor. Last year's BHS homecoming queen Mateah Kittle will do the honors of crowning her successor.

Organized by BHS Student Council, this year’s homecoming dance will be held Saturday night at the BHS gymnasium. This year’s theme is “Under the City Lights.”
