Video games may have started out as child’s play but now they bring in more than $100 billion each year in sales and the competitive nature ensures that trend will continue.  No longer known for bad graphics and simple consoles, the video game industry now represents some of the most sophisticated virtual reality around. For those who are passionate about gaming, mark your calendars for October 29.

In an effort to raise funds for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, the Bridgeport High School Key Club will be hosting its first annual Super Smash Bros Tournament.  As one of the top games by Nintendo, the Super Smash Bros series features characters from some of the most popular games the company sells, including Pikachu, Mario, Fox McCloud, Link and more.

The Super Smash Tournament is open to people of all ages and will take place at the Game Stop on Emily Drive on October 29, beginning at 2 p.m.   The donation-based admission will be donated to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and competitors need to call 304-629-3881 to reserve a spot.  The winner of the tournament will receive a prize in addition to bragging rights.

Key Club is the world’s largest student led community service organization, boasting nearly 260,000 students.  Known for service projects with Unicef, March of Dimes and Children’s Miracle Network, the group also has a substantial impact on the local community.  BHS Key Clubbers spend each Wednesday volunteering with the residents of Meadowview Manor and are actively involved with the Kiwanis Club.
