BHS Names Nguyen, Keener Students of Month for August

Bridgeport High School has announced its students of the month for August. They are Jade Nguyen and Bruce Keener.
 
Jade Nguyen is the daughter of Tony Nguyen and Lena Tran.
 
Tony and Lena are the owners of Pronails in East Pointe.
 
She is also the older sister to Julia and Jordan Nguyen.
 
Jade has been an active member of the student council executive board all four years of high school. She has organized the American Education Weekly for several years, providing lunch for the staff members at BHS as a way to show appreciation.
 
Other clubs that Jade has participated in throughout her high school career include Key Club, DECA, and Drug Free Club. She has been selected to be the manager of the safety department within her simulated work place, Indian Enterprises. They have been working on a joint project with the school's aerospace program selling BHS keychains and ornaments.
 
She served as the Spanish Honors Society historian her freshman and sophomore year. Jade is also bilingual and speaks Vietnamese as a second language. When she was younger she had the opportunity to travel to Vietnam and experience her culture. With the help of her extracurriculars, leadership, community service, and awards, she was able to be inducted into the National Honor Society.
 
This year she had the opportunity to help freshmen students open up and gain a different perspective on life through the Building Hope event.
 
Jade was selected to be on the senior homecoming court and was voted the homecoming queen.
 
She has been awarded an academic letter and two academic lamps while maintaining over a 4.0 GPA. She has also made the honor roll for every 6 week period.
 
The summer going into high school, she was selected to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum at Loyola University in Chicago, where she was able to build on her skills in STEM. She has taken multiple AP classes and AP chemistry is her favorite with Mrs. McCarthy.
 
Jade is a 4-year member of the varsity cheerleading team, where they have earned a number of awardsincluding two regional titles, four Big 10 titles, and two state titles, one in Class AA and one in Class AAA. She has enjoyed cheering on the Indians and performing during school events.
 
Growing up she has taken many dance and tumbling classes at Dance Unlimited.
 
Outside of cheerleading, Jade stays active by lifting at the gym and taking workout classes at Main Street Fitness. During her free time, she enjoys baking, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
 
Jade plans on attending West Virginia University in the Fall of 2022 to study chemistry. She then wants to pursue a career in optometry.
 
Bruce “Randy” Keener II is son of Bruce Keener and Charlene Keener and is a current senior at Bridgeport High School.
 
Keener has been part of the honor roll, maintained a 4.0 GPA, and has received a letter and two lamps for academics.
 
He is also a national merit semifinalist, county math field day winner, member of the National Honors society, member of Spanish club, and president of the Spanish National Honors society.
 
Keener has won nine swimming state titles (3x 200 Individual Medley, 2x 100 Backstroke, 2x medley Relay, 2x 400 freestyle relay) and one team title (2019) over the last three years. He has been named to all-county, all-conference, all-region, and all-stateteams throughout his high school campaign.
 
In addition, he has been given Big 10 Swimmer of the Year three timesand named BB&TSwimmer of the Year twice.
 
Keener plans on majoring in computer science and swimming at the University of Findlay in Ohio following graduation.
