Bridgeport Middle School student Isaac Boyce recently took home the win recently at the North Central Regional Spelling Bee March 9. Boyce, in the 8th grade, has claimed back-to-back regional championships.

The win allows Boyce to be one of two students from West Virginia to go on to compete in the National Spelling Bee. The event will be held Monday, May 27 and continue through June 3.

The national competition is at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbour, MD, which is just outside of Washington, D.C.  The spelling bee will be aired on ION television.

Boyce has been participating in spelling bees since the 4th grade.  His goal for this year is to make it to the finals, if not win the whole competition.  A victory would allow Boyce to purchase a Fender Stratocaster.  It should be noted the winner receives a $50,000 cash prize, while those finishing near the top will also receive prizes.

The BMS student puts in nearly three to four hours daily towards his prep for the spelling bee, and even more hours on the weekends. Boyce uses Websters online dictionary, multiple spelling resource books and studies words roots and origins.
