Big Changes to Harrison County Schools as Liberty to Merge with RCB as Part of Flurry of BOE Moves

According to WDTV, the Harrison County Board of Education has voted to consolidate 5 schools tonight, out of 6 proposed schools in total.
 
Below is a list of each school voted on:
  • Salem Elementary School - FAILED - 0-5
  • North View Elementary School - PASSED - 3-2
  • Mountaineer Middle School - PASSED - 4-1
  • Washington Irving Middle School - PASSED - 4-1
  • Liberty High School - PASSED - 3-2
The votes initiate a closure of Liberty High School that will feed down to the lower schools.
 
Liberty High students will merge with Robert C. Byrd High School. Mountaineer Middle School will merge with Washington Irving Middle, and they will move to the current Liberty High bulding.
 
North View Elementary will then move to the current Mountaineer Middle Building. Salem Elementary will remain open. It was initially proposed to merge with North View Elementary into the current Mountaineer Middle School
 
All of the changes above will go into effect for the 2025-26 school year.
