Box Truck Overturns on Route 279, Driver Transported

By Julie Perine on August 17, 2018 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

As of 6:30 p.m. Friday, a large box truck which overturned on Route 279 two hours earlier was still not up on its wheels. The call came into Harrison County Bureau of Emergency Services at 4:24 p.m. after the driver of the truck flipped it while attempting to exit Route 279 at the off-ramp to Route 131.

“From what we gathered, he came around the turn not expecting it to be as sharp as it was,” said Bridgeport Police Officer Matt Holley. “There were skid marks for a good ways. He took the turn too fast and rolled it over on its side.”

Traveling eastbound, the truck was carrying food items to China One in Bridgeport. The call was dispatched as an accident with entrapment, but upon arrival of Bridgeport Police and Fire/Emergency Services, both the driver and one passenger were standing on top of the cab of the truck. The driver was transported to United Hospital Center with non-life-threatening injuries, said Rick Todd of Bridgeport Fire Department. The passenger was not injured.

The truck came to rest on the guardrail. Both Riggs Towing and Summers Towing & Repair were on scene. Anmoore Emergency Services also responded to the accident.
