Bridgeport High School soccer teams traveled to Robert C. Byrd Monday night. The Lady Indians edged out a 3-2 win over the Lady Eagles. The boys fell short 4-2.

Coach John Reese said he was proud of his girls, battling back after being down 1-0. Reagan Lesher scored the initial goal, tying up the contest. The Lady Eagles again took the lead for a short time, after which Mikayla Oliverio scored on an assist by Gina Marano, tying the game at 2-2. Scoring the winning goal was freshman Anna Cava, assisted by Oliverio.  Sophomore Joplin Kehrer is credited with a save that could have made the difference in the game’s outcome.

It was tight contest for the boys too, who were tied 2-2 with the Eagles at the half. Contributing those goals were Luke Cox and Tanner Furbee, who scored on an assist by Adam Bentz.

“I fully expected (RCB) to be very good,” said Indian Soccer Coach Danny Hamrick. “They have a bunch of boys that play the game all year long. Their soccer IQ is very high. Also, they are always very well coached. TJ (Hill) does a great job with them.”

Both teams are back in action Thursday as they host Fairmont Senior at Wayne Jamison Field. The boys play at 6 p.m., followed by the girls at 8 p.m.
