The Bridgeport Middle School Braves Cheerleaders won Grand Champion for their Open Routine and swept all divisions of competition at the Jan. 21 East Fairmont High School Invitational. The team participated in the large division with 15 girls, competing against much larger teams.

 

The team competed in Technical Cheer, Open Routine, Stunt Groups and Sideline.  

 

“The team was very determined and really worked hard as they knew we were facing a challenge being against these larger teams and I could not be prouder of them for their work ethic and determination,” said Coach Natalie Hathaway.

The Braves took home first and second place in the stunt competition. Lilly Strait's stunt group won first place, consisting of Strait, Emilia Underwood, Lauran Johnston, Lexi Wilkinson and Abbey Clifton. The second place stunt group was made up of Abigail Davis, McKayla Friel, Gyllian Wagner, Olivia Goldizen and Mackenzie Henderson. Also competing in a group for the stunt competition was Rylee Mullins, Sofia Henline, Kylie Dowell, Jade Nguyen and Amelia Duarte.

 

Jade Nguyen, Lexi Wilkinson and Abigail Davis also competed in individual jump and tumbling competitions. Abigail Davis was awarded first place for jumps in the sixth grade category.

 

For the first times since 2001, the Braves Cheerleaders captured the Harrison County Cheerleading title in November. The girls will have their last competition of the year on Feb. 25 at Liberty High School.

 

Members of the 2016-2017 Harrison County Cheerleading Champions team are: Sofia Henline, Kylie Dowell, McKayla Friel, Amelia Duarte, Lauran Johnston, Rylee Mullins, Jade Nguyen, Lilly Strait, Emilia Underwood, Gyllian Wagner, Abbey Clifton, Abigail Davis, Olivia Goldizen, Mackenzie Henderson and Lexi Wilkinson.  They are coached by Natalie Hathaway and Janet Hathaway.
