Bridgeport Boys Advance Two Relay Teams, Two Individual Swimmers to Tonight's State Swim Finals

Bridgeport’s boys blew it out of the water at Thursday’s WVSSAC state swim meet preliminaries. Relay teams and individual swimmers are headed to tonight’s finals at the West Virginia University Natatorium.
 
The Tribe’s Marcel Rodriquez, Kyle Malcolm, Phillip Malenich and John Carter finished a very close second place in the 200-yard freestyle medley. The team completed the race in 1:35.93, shaving off a fraction of a second from its seed time. Parkersburg edged out the win in 1:35.42.
 
Malenich, Luke Pinti, Carter and Malcolm placed third in the 200-yard medley relay, swimming the race in 1:47.27. Taking first and second place were George Washington and Parkersburg, respectively.
 
Both BHS relay teams advance to finals.
 
In individual events, Pinti finished an impressive third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.33) and Carter finished fifth (1:06.72); both advancing to finals.
 
Malcolm tied for 11th place in the 50-yard freestyle event, qualifying for consolation finals. Malenich finished 10th in the 100-yard backstroke, also making the consolation round.
 
Pinti finished 14th in the 200-yard individual medley. Marcel Rodriquez placed 18th in the 200-yard freestyle event and 13th in 100-yard freestyle. Viktor Rodriquez placed ninth in the 100-yard butterfly. Ryan Knapp finished 22nd in the 100-yard breaststroke.
 
Boys' preliminaries were held Thursday evening at he WVU Natatorium. Finals and consolation finals will start at 4:30 today at WVU. Results will follow.
