Bridgeport City Council Cancels its Second Regularly Scheduled Meeting for December due to Holidays

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on December 07, 2021 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Bridgeport Mayor Andy Lang announced the regularly scheduled second meeting of City Council will not be held in December. The meeting was initially set to be held Dec. 27.

Lang made the announcement during Monday's strategic planning session of the city's governing body. The meeting was held at the Benedum Civic Center.

That does not mean the city will not meet the required two monthly meetings as spelled out in the city's charter. The meeting held Monday counts as an official meeting.

Council will also meet this coming Monday, Dec. 13 at the Bridgeport Municipal Complex. That meeting, like yesterday's session, is open to the public.

The move to eliminate, or even change the date of the regularly scheduled second meeting of Council is not unusual. With the second meeting typically falling near, or on occasion on, the Christmas holiday and close to New Year's Eve, it has seen moderations by Council going back decades.

Council will resume regular meetings in January on the 10th and 24th. Barring changes, as noted above, Council meets the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 7 p.m. More from this meeting in the days ahead on Connect-Bridgeport.

Editor's Note: Council is shown meeting Monday morning at the Benedum Civic Center.
