Bridgeport Fire and EMS were alerted to a 12 p.m. vehicle accident at the 128 mile marker of Interstate 79. The call went out over Harrison County Bureau of Emergency Services as an accident with injury and entrapment.

The accident involved one vehicle, a Ford Contour, which was significantly mangled.

“A gentleman rolled his vehicle several times and was transported to (United Hospital Center),” said Bridgeport Fire Chief Bob Seccuro.

The driver was still in the vehicle when EMS arrived, but he was not entrapped, Seccuro said.

The extent of the injuries is unknown.

“He was awake and alert when he was transported,” Seccuro said.

The accident caused significant traffic delays in the northbound lanes.

Bridgeport Police were initially dispatched to the accident, but it was out of jurisdiction, said Sgt. J.W. Petroski.

West Virginia State Police and Harrison County Sheriff’s Department were alerted to the scene and one of those entities is handling the investigation, Petroski said.
