Bridgeport Fire Civil Service Meets to Discuss New Hires; Interdepartmental Promotion

The Bridgeport Fire Civil Service Commission met last night to take care of two items of business, said Mayor Mario Blount.

“One is the testing – agility, written test and interviews - for two new firefighter/paramedics and the second agenda item is to set up a testing date for an interdepartmental promotion to the lieutenant position,” he said.

Nineteen individuals applied for firefighter/paramedic positions left by Josh Keough, who relocated to Clarksburg Fire Department and Phil Dye, who retires at the end of this month, Blount said.

“We got that list together and made plans for those guys to get a chance to go through agility testing. We’re looking at a May 20, 21 and 22 timeframe for that,” Blount said, adding that that testing will be done in conjunction with Clarksburg Fire Department and will be held in the vicinity of Harrison County EMS.

The interviews will be conducted and written tests administered about a month later.

Because Keough held a lieutenant position with Bridgeport Fire/EMS, that leaves a need for a lieutenant position, a rank just below captain, to be filled.

There are 12 members of the department eligible for that promotion, which will be determined via written exam score combined with seniority ranking.

“That test will be administered at the same time as the written test for the two new firefighters/paramedics,” he said.

Decisions should be made by late-June. Pete Conley is the president of the Bridgeport Fire Civil Service Commission.
