Fairmont State President Dr. Mirta M. Martin and the Fairmont State University Board of Governors announced the promotion of Tim McNeely and Bridgeport High School alum Chad Fowler to University leadership positions.

McNeely, who has served as Director of Athletics since March 2013, has been named Vice President of Student Affairs and Athletics. Fowler, who has served as Associate Director of Athletics for Athletics Development since the summer of 2013, has been named Director of Athletics and will oversee the day-to-day operations of the department.

“Fairmont State University has been blessed by the passion and expertise of both Tim and Chad,” said President Mirta Martin. “With their efforts, we have improved in every facet of athletics, from the court to the classroom and from the playing field to fundraising and donor development. We are not only more competitive and becoming more widely known nationally, but we’re also winning where it counts: in the classroom with tremendous student-athlete success. These promotions ensure that Falcon athletics programs – and our dedicated student athletes – will continue to soar.”

During McNeely’s tenure as Director of Athletics, the department significantly improved its fundraising, competitiveness and academic goals – resulting in marked improvements and successes for Fairmont State athletics programs and student-athletes. In fact, Fairmont State has ranked fifth in the Mountain East Conference Commissioner’s Cup Standing in each of the last two years, the highest finish for the school since the MEC was formed.

Fowler, who has served as Associate Director of Athletics for Athletics Development for the past five years, has over 10 years of experience working in professional athletics, collegiate athletics and professional sales.

In his tenure at Fairmont State, Fowler helped the department of athletics acquire critical donors to complete its $1.2 million renovation to Joe Retton Arena in 2014. The renovation included a new floor, bleachers, sound system and LED scorer’s table, which improved the game day experience for fans and improved the student-athlete experience for Fairmont State student-athletes.
