Bridgeport High School has announced its students of the month for April. They are Elizabeth Deniker and Luke Brovey.

Elizabeth is the daughter of Jeff and Susan Deniker.

She has been an honor roll student every semester at BHS, receiving academic letters and lamps each year for her success as a student.

Beyond the classroom, Elizabeth has been a part of the soccer and basketball teams at BHS for four years, in addition to participating in both the tennis and track and field teams.

Elizabeth is a member of the BHS orchestra, Key Club, National Honor Society and Student Council, where she has served as president, vice president, and executive board member.

She is active in the Bridgeport Methodist Church, including participating in the church choir and youth group. In the fall, Elizabeth plans to attend Boston College and study biology.

Luke Brovey, a current senior at Bridgeport High School, is the son of Michael and Gerry Brovey of Bridgeport.

He has one older brother, Cole Brovey, who is pursuing a degree in nursing at Fairmont State University.

Luke has found great joy through his community by volunteering at his church, All Saints Catholic Church, in events such as the Bridgeport Community Conversations that highlighted West Virginia's drug epidemic, servicing many Lenten meals with his parish, and by remaining an active participant in the church family where he has participated in various other activities.

Luke has also had the opportunity to volunteer at the Harrison County Humane Society his freshman and sophomore years, participate with his French club in charitable Christmas Box donations, help keep our community drug free by representing the Bridgeport High School Drug Free Club, he represented the National French Honors society by completing for language classes, and he has had the wonderful privilege of helping his elderly neighbors through the COVID-19 pandemic by providing them assistance when needed and supplying them warm dinners.

Luke is proud to have lettered in academics, maintaining an above 4.0 GPA throughout his high school career, and he was a part of the orchestra as a violinist his freshman and sophomore years. He has completed several AP Courses, and he recently qualified for the National Chemistry Olympiad Test which is a prestigious chemistry competition affiliated with the American Chemical Society.
Luke will be attending Fairmont State University in the fall where he was awarded Finalist for the Charles J. McClain Presidential Scholarship. He currently has an intended major of chemistry.
