By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on February 25, 2020 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The following was submitted to Connect-Bridgeport on behalf of the Bridgeport High School Student Body and Student Council by their publicist Virginia Noone. It includes a list of items the group has done this year. Please take a second to see what your future leaders are doing at your local high school.

FROM BHS STUDENT BODY/STUDENT COUNCIL

"As students at Bridgeport High School make their way into the second semester, we reflect back on the work Student Council has completed since August. Under the leadership of student body president, Carson Winkie, and guidance of our advisor, Mrs. McCarthy, members of student council have participated in service projects throughout the community, led school pride events within the school, and held functions and fundraisers throughout the year.

Below is a list of projects/events student council has worked on:
  • Football Game Tailgate (Students gather at the City Park to hang-out and play games before entering the student section and cheering on the tribe)
  • Soccer Halftime Event
  • Football Game Pink Out for Breast Cancer (We raised funds to help fight breast cancer by selling baked goods and stickers)
  • Color Me Rad (Students purchased colored flour to raise money and then gathered in the endzone to throw the powder)
  • Homecoming Dance
  • American Education Luncheon for BHS Staff
  • Community Food Drive
  • Trunk-or-Treat
  • (Members formed groups and decorated their cars to pass out candy to elementary trick-or-treaters)
  • Nursing Home Fall Craft
  • (Students spend time at Meadowview Manor helping seniors make seasonal crafts)
  • Laying of the Wreaths (Students collected money from every homeroom to purchase wreaths to lay on Veteran graves at the Bridgeport Cemetery. Student Council members then helped lay the wreaths)
  • Deck the Halls (BHS students wrapped their lockers with decorations to celebrate the holidays)
  • Donating Holiday Stockings
  • Salvation Army Table
  • Preparing and Serving Mission Dinner
  • Hosted a week of Homeroom Olympics where the classes competed in volleyball, relays, water balloon toss, and other events.
We could not have accomplished anything if it weren’t for the teachers and administration who graciously gave us their time and energy even outside of school hours, classmates at BHS who participate in our events and donate to our charities, and members of our community who support us. Members of student council have worked hard and will continue efforts to give back to the community in the coming semester.

Thank You,

Student Body Executive Board
