Last night at Wayne Jamison Field the Bridgeport High School Student Council had two main goals for their first home football game. One was, of course, supporting the tribe, but the other stayed closer to their hearts.

The student council worked together to come up with a way to raise money for Bridgeport Alumni Timmy Wilson’s cancer treatment.  The night began with a great school gathering at the Bridgeport city park where students grilled out, listened to music, and got each other fired up to cheer on their home team.  During all the fun, color packets were sold to students in order to participate in a “Color me Rad” event down in the end zone of the football field.  The students raised $243 alone from just an hour of selling color packets to their student section. Aside from getting covered with color, the money raised from the color packet sale along with an additional collection today during school will be directly deposited into Timmy Wilson’s GoFundMe account.  This account helps support the Wilson family financially with medical expenses and also shows them that they have the community’s full support while dealing with this tough journey.
When asked about last night’s event Bridgeport senior Stephanie Alvaro shares her thoughts by saying, “The student section did a great job of coming together to cheer on their team. We had a great turn out in the park before the game and I loved not only being a part of a unique student section theme but also a theme for a good cause.”  Also, Bridgeport senior stand out Mackenzie Holmes comments on the cheerful section by saying, “One of the best feelings I get to experience during the game is looking up to the stands after scoring a touchdown and seeing all my friends cheering me on.  It truly gives me all the confidence in the world.”

As a student council we want to continue to build school spirit throughout the 2016-2017 school year, and make a difference in the lives of those in our community.  For information on Timmy Wilson’s fight with cancer you can visit the facebook page “Prayers for Timmy Wilson.” It is our job as a community to help one another through our most difficult times.  Therefore, our love goes out to the family and friends of Timmy Wilson.  To the fighter himself we give all our support and encouragement to you as you take on one of life’s hardest battles.  Together we stand, together we fight, together we are #TimmyTough.
