Bridgeport PD Release Details about Three Saturday Accidents

Bridgeport Police, Fire and Emergency Services crews responded to three significant vehicle accidents Saturday; the first two involving motorcycles which crashed along U.S. Route 50 east of Bridgeport, near the entrance to the Crystal Ridge development.
"In the first motorcycle accident, the bike had some type of mechanical failure which caused it to leak oil," said Bridgeport Police Sgt. Scott Carpenter. "All of the sudden,the driver lost traction in his rear tires, causing him to run off the roadway into a ditch."
The oil spill caused a second motorcycle to wreck.
"He camethrough and hit the oil and lost control," Carpenter said.
Thereafter, a portion of Route 50 East was closed to motorists and detours were put in place while the Department of Motor Vehicles cleaned up the roadway. The road closure was in place for about three hours, said Director of Emergency Services Laura Pysz.
Three individuals were transported to United Hospital Center as a result of the pair of accidents, both which took place just before 5 p.m. Saturday. Also responding to that accident were Anmoore EMS and Harrison County EMS.
Bridgeport Police, Fire and EMS crews were later dispatched to Route 58 near Rosewood where a vehicle rolled and the driver was entrapped. That accident took place at 8:37 p.m.
"We don't know the reason that the driver lost control, left the roadway to the right and into a ditch," Carpenter said. "It appears he began rolling, came to a rest and was stuck inside the vehicle."
Once freed from the vehicle by first responders, the male driver was transported by Bridgeport EMS to United Hospital Center.
A portion of Route 58 - between Hinkle Lake Road/Virginia Avenue and the Platinum Drive interchange - was closed for a short period of time. Bridgeport Police Department is investigating. The vehicle was removed from the scene by Dan Riggs Towing.
