Bridgeport Parks and Recreation to Offer Aviation Day Camp in June and July

Area kids have until next week to register for Aviation Camp 2022 to be held at the Benedum Civic Center.

"We wanted to offer a variety of programs that would spark the interest in more kids," said Amy Callahan, Bridgeport Parks and Recreation coordinator. "With The Bridge offering all the sports camps, we thought we could supplement it with a S.T.E.A.M. camp."

Starting June 10, the camp will be held 9-11 a.m. Fridays in June and July. The experience is open to kids ages 11-16 and space is limited. The cost is $40 per day camper.

Instruction will include airplanes, rockets, model making, gliders and demonstrations. Hands-on learning will be utilized as kids make gliders, rockets, and model airplanes. All supplies are included. The camp will conclude with a demonstration day at Bridgeport City Park.

Instructor is Ed Waske, owner and founder of E.A.S.W. (Engine & Airframe Solutions Worldwide, LLC)
"Ed worked with the summer camps last year at The Bridge and we got positive feedback," Callahan said.  "We thought expanding on what he had taught there would be successful and he could get into more advanced topics and modeling by focusing on the middle school and high school ages."

Register by June 3 by calling the Civic Center 304-842-8240 or stopping at the Civic Center, 164 West Main Street, Bridgeport.
