Bridgeport Police have closed in on a suspect involved in the Jan. 11 hit-and-run accident on East Main Street which left a utility pole severed, both lanes of traffic closed for several hours and 1100 customers without power.

“Complaints have been filed for an individual and that’s as far as we have gotten right now. No arrest has been made,” said Officer J.D. Manson. “We have to wait for those complaints to be filed by the magistrate and once that is finalized, the warrant will come back and we can make an arrest.”

The suspect was tracked down primarily through witness accounts and video supplied by a Main Street business confirmed that information, Manson said.

A previous BOLO had been out on the vehicle, but that doesn’t mean the vehicle had been involved in a local incident. It could have been a personal complaint filed by a motorist.

The Main Street accident happened at 2:24 p.m. Jan. 11 near the Davis Street intersection, in front of Winnie’s Juice Bar, a locally-owned business still under construction. Mon Power worked nearly seven hours to replace the utility pole and repair lines, during which time traffic moved at a snail’s pace and was routed across Philadelphia Avenue.
