Bridgeport Police Officer Bart Sayers Going to Jail for Muscular Dystrophy

By Julie Perine on March 19, 2014 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Members of the Bridgeport community know Bart Sayers as a member of the Bridgeport Police force. In addition to his regular patrol duties and child safety seat advocacy, Sayers is a field training officer and member of the department’s crisis negotiation team.

But Sayers announces he is going to jail – Muscular Dystrophy jail, that is.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 16, the Bridgeport police officer will be among community members participating in the MDA Lock-Up Event at Texas Roadhouse.

“I’ll work midnight shift the night before, stay up and go over as early as possible,” he said.

Because money raised is for such a great cause – to further research for and treatment of the enabling muscular disease – Sayers is already raising his bail with a goal of $2400.

“Please support me in this important goal by visiting my fundraising page and making a contribution,” he said. “Your tax-deductible donation makes a difference to the hundreds of kids, adults and their families who live right here in our local community. Your support will help families living in our community with muscle disease.”

This is Sayers’ third year to participate in the lock-up.

“Muscular Dystrophy contacted me to participate the first year and I sent an email to the rest of the officers, asking them to help me out,” he said. “And I’m not one to say ‘no’ once I start something. I try to build on it each year, making the campaign better and better.”

In addition to the website campaign, Sayers will be making phone calls to collect pledges during his April 16 “jail time.” He appreciates any and all support.
