Bridgeport Pool to be Open Daily Starting Wednesday

Bridgeport Pool will be open noon to 6 p.m. starting Wed., June 1, Parks and Recreation Deputy Director Joe Shuttleworth said.

With most students dismissed from school for the summer and a forecast of sunny skies and warm temperatures for the week, the department decided to start the swim season slightly earlier than originally intended.

Another factor which could have delayed the weekday debut is the Bridgeport Wildcatter Swim Team, which utilizes the pool for evaluations and practices. That has all been worked out so it will not affect daily hours of operation, Shuttleworth said.

The pool was open Saturday through Monday with plenty of swimmers and summertime fun, Shuttleworth said. Saturday's "Splash Day," during which admission was free, brought in more than 660 area residents.

The only problem encountered during opening weekend was attributed to the swarming cicadas which everyone in the city and the North Central West Virginia area has encountered in recent weeks.

"We had a little flood in the spray ground because the cicadas stopped up the drain," Shuttleworth said.

That problem was easily remedied and the staff is equipped to be proactive to combat the situation in the coming days, he said.

The city pool will also be open for family nights 7- 9 p.m. starting this Thursday and Friday, June 2 and 3. Admission for family night is $3 per person, all ages.

General admission to the pool is $3.50 for children age 3 to 11, $4.50 for adults and $3.50 for seniors age 55 and over.

Seasonal pool passes and discount tickets are still available for purchase the Benedum Civic Center office. Find more information in the summer activity guide which can be accessed HERE
