Bridgeport Public Library's LibraryCon to Create Comic-Com Atmosphere with Vendors, Authors, Demos

By Julie Perine on July 17, 2019 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The finale of Bridgeport Public Library’s summer reading program is LibraryCon, a virtual festival for lovers of sci-fi and fantasy novels and books in general.

Open to members of the public – all ages – the fun starts at 12 p.m. Friday at Bridgeport Public Library.

“We’ll have vendors set up on the outer rim of the library doing demos and West Virginia authors doing book signings and handing out books,” said Tyler Grogg, library technician. “We’ll also have vendors, including the library’s own Kelsey Musgrave, doing art demos.”

My Little Cupcake, a lightsaber vendor/demo and game booths will also be included in the array of offerings, creating an atmosphere to compliment the theme of the event – and the summer reading program.

“The theme for the reading program was Showtime – like a twist on Comic-Com,” Grogg said.

Comic-Com is an East coast pop culture event hosting the latest comics, graphic novels, video games, toys and movies, among other elements.

The fun will continue through 7 p.m. Friday, Grogg said.

“This is for everyone to come and have fun and relax,” she said.

Those who did take part in one of the library’s summer reading programs may bring their summer reading log to participate in prize drawings. Children’s Librarian Amy Eakle headed up the children’s reading program and Grogg headed up the teen/adult reading program.

The LibraryCon is a first-time event at Bridgeport Public Library. Another first-time event - a nighttime laser tag battle - took place Monday evening and was a big success. It is likely that the laser tag event will be repeated quarterly, Grogg said.

Bridgeport Public Library is located at 1200 Johnson Avenue.
