Local businessman Ben Randolph has filed to run for City Council in the June 9 Bridgeport Municipal Election.

Monday, January 12 was the first day to file a certificate declaring candidacy. That process will be open through Thursday, April 9. Randolph is the second applicant in the Council race thus far, said City Clerk Andrea Kerr.

Two Council members will be elected, as well as a new city recorder. Elected in June of 2011 to fill those seats for four-year terms were Councilor Darrell Bowen, Councilor Melissa S. Matheny and Recorder Mario Blount. Although changes in those positions have occurred over the past four years, each is up for election.

Randolph is the current vice president of Sales, Processing & Logistics at Citynet and is past president of the Bridgeport Country Club Board of Directors. He is a 1999 graduate of Bridgeport High School and a 2003 graduate of the West Virginia University College of Business and Economics in Finance and holds his Master of Business Administration from WVU. He lives in Bridgeport with his wife Christa and their two children Taylor and Alexander.  Randolph is vice president of the Bridgeport Soccer Association.

Certificates declaring candidacy for the Bridgeport Municipal Election are available at Bridgeport City Hall (515 W. Main Street) between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Certificates must be filed with the city clerk's office with an accompanying $25 filing fee. Deadline is 4 p.m. Thurs., April 9.

The election is nonpartisan and any person who is a qualified voter of the City of Bridgeport may file. A qualified voter is anyone who is a minimum of 18 years of age, a resident of Bridgeport, and not under conviction of a felony or other disqualification.

Anyone living inside the city limits of Bridgeport may register to vote in the upcoming election. Registration can take place at the Harrison County Courthouse, 301 W.
