"Canadian Clipper" Weather System Developing and Expected to Bring Frigid Air, Snow in Higher Elevations

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on December 11, 2017 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Information submitted by Director of Bridgeport Emergency Services Laura Pysz:

Weather professionals are watching for the development of a "Canadian Clipper" expected to zip through the region starting early Tuesday, with very cold air moving in for Wednesday.

Such types of winter systems can drop quick accumulating snow in the mountains if they have enough moisture available. They can also pack a powerful punch of polar air and brisk winds after they swing through.

Snow squalls will be possible on Tuesday. Depending on the timing, these squalls could affect the afternoon commute and make for hazardous driving conditions at times.

Potential midweek impacts include (1) Snow spreading west to east, especially Tuesday and Wednesday; (2) Cold wind chills, especially in the mountains on Wednesday morning and (3) The possibility of accumulating snow, especially in the mountains by Wednesday evening.

Check back for updates as the system develops.
