Cancellations, Business Announcements Concerning Coronavirus Pandemic

In an effort to be proactive and head off potential spread of the Coronavirus, there have been a substantial number of cancellations and postponements. Below is a list of cancelations received by Connect-Bridgeport. We will try to keep this list updated and also advise you visit the Web site of our news partner WDTV for updates as well.
 
- Bridgeport Parks & Recreation Easter Egg Hunt scheduled for Tuesday, April 7th has been canceled
 
- Bridgeport Parks & Recreation's swim lesson and pool party sign-up day scheduled for Saturday, April 18th is postponed and more information will be forthcoming about a rescheduled date.
 
- Bridgeport Farmers Markets are not being held, but items can be ordered directly through vendors. Visit the BFM Web site HERE or the market's Facebook page for more information. 
 
- Citynet continues to provide services throughout the area and state. Click HERE to read about their actions relating to the Coronavirus.
 
- Bridgeport High School Assistant Principal Mark Jones announced as of March 31 the Wayne Jamison Field Complex is closed to the public. Click HERE for details.
 
- Fairmont State University will complete the rest of the semester with online instruction; as well as exams. Commencement will be done in a virtual setting. Click HERE for details. 
 
- West Virginia’s Youth Environmental Day, scheduled for May 16 at North Bend State Park, has been canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak. This would have marked the 57th consecutive year for the event, first held in 1964 at Holley River State Park.
 
- Bridgeport playgrounds and basketball courts are closed, but trails remain open. Please use the six-feet rule when encountering others.
 
- Bridgeport Cemetery is limiting burials/graveside services to 10 individuals or less to adhere to government guidelines. 
 
- Gov. Jim Justice has announced that West Virginia schools will be closed through April 20. Tax deadlines have been extended until July 15.
 
- Meadowbrook Mall is closed, except for a handful of businesses designated essential. Stay up to date HERE
 
- WVU Medicine is implementing a no-visitor policy for all its hopsitals, including UHC, starting at 8 a.m. Monday, March 23. For more information, cllick HERE
 
- CENTRA WV Transit Authority will be suspending its bus services from March 23 at 6 p.m. through April 12. For more details click HERE
 
- The Mountain East Conference has cancelled all athletic events through the end of the 2019-20 academic year. For more information, click HERE
 
- Filming for JC Films' "Being Trumped" has been postponed. Filming was originally scheduled to take place March 21-22. 
 
- Kohl's, which has a location at Clarksburg's Newpointe Plaza, has shut down as part of the chain's national shut down. Click HERE to read about it.
 
- Mon Health System Hospitals and facilities, including Grafton City Hospital, has suspended all non-essential treatments in order to safeguard its patients and staff and support a community response to the coronavirus outbreak. Mon Health and Grafton City Hospital medical staffs and facilities are focused on ensuring top quality care and outcomes always. We live our mission of each patient every time always. Non-essential care is defined as that which is not time-sensitive for medical reasons. A Mon Health System clinical leadership committee has developed a list of conditions and treatments that meet criteria to be considered essential. Read more HERE.
 
West Virginia University and its divisional campuses in Keyser and Beckley will extend alternative delivery of classes through the rest of the semester in response to the continued threat of the novel coronavirus COVID-19. Additionally, all employees – except for those needed to keep online operations running and a select few others – must work from home, and residence halls will remain shuttered. - The Associated Businesses of Bridgeport has postponed its spring meeting, a Breakfast & Learn session featuring Tia Viglianco, originally set for 7:30 a.m. April 9 at My Little Cupcake. The meeting will be rescheduled. 
 
- The West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles will close to the public beginning Thursday, March 19. Out of an abundance of caution, and in accordance with the most recent guidelines and best practices recommended by both the CDC and West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources regarding COVID-19, this action will reduce exposure to both customers and employees. - City of Clarksburg has cancelled its 2020 Spring Clean-Up. Click HERE for more.
 
- The Clarksburg Columbian Club announced that the 37th Annual Frank Loria Awards Banquet©  set for March 24 will be postponed to a date later this year.  Given the restrictions put in place by the State in reaction to the COVID-19 virus, and the closing of public schools by the Governor, it would be impossible to go forward with the banquet. - In light of the continued development of the spread of COVID-19 and in the best effort to maintain the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff, Fairmont State University has closed the campus to all community members at this time. This includes the Falcon Center, all recreational use of the campus grounds, and community use of the library. All campus events scheduled through April 24 are being rescheduled at this time.  Click HERE to read the entire release.
 
- In the interest of the health of their patrons due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ACT 2 Theatre Company is sad to say that they must cancel scheduled March performances of Meddling Spirits. They have rescheduled the show for November 2020, barring any unforeseen circumstances. Those who made pre-paid reservations through Eventbrite will be reimbursed. Meddling Spirits theatre production was scheduled to run March 19-22 and 26-29, 2020. More information will be forthcoming later in the year. Questions should be directed to act2theatre@gmail.com.
 
- The Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center has announced the postponment of all events through April 12. Click HERE to see a list as well as some rescheduled events. 
 
- The Bridgeport Cemetery office will be closed to the public, but will still design monuments, take date cut requests, and schedule funerals and other services via email and by phone. The number is 304-842-2641 and the email is tbombardiere@bridgeportwv.com 
 
- Doug Comer with the Harrison County Parks and Recreation Department has announced that the Dinosaur exhibit at their complex will be closed until further notice.
 
- According to MetroNews, this week's boy state basketball tournament in Charleston has been postponed. No further information is available. The boys Class AA regional games, including Bridgeport at Lewis County, has also been postponed with no further information.
 
- In the interest of the safety and well being of everyone involved in intercollegiate athletics and the public, the Mountain East Conference has suspended all athletic competitions indefinitely. The decision was made with unanimous support of the league's Board of Directors following today's decision by the NCAA to cancel winter and spring championships for the remainder of the 2019-20 academic year.
 
- The entire girls state basketball tournament was being suspended at the conclusion of the Parkersburg Catholic-Tucker County contest that was being played as late as 2:45 p.m. on March 12.  There was no word on the future status of those games. 
 
- The March 22, 2020 Harrison County 4-H Empty Bowls event has been postponed to the fall of 2020 (all tickets sold will still be honored) . 
 
- The March 21 Steak Fry to benefit the Melinda Lindsey Scholarship has been canceled and rescheduled for May 2. Still to be held 6 p.m. at the Benedum Civic Center, tickets already purchased for the event will be honored or refunded. Tickets can be purchased by emailing abbmelindaaward.bpt.me. 
 
- Bridgeport Farmers Market has announced that the April 5 Winter Market at Bridgeport Conference Center has been cancelled. The market looks forward to the opening day of the regular season to take place May 17. 
 
- Bridgeport United Methodist Church has announced that in light of recent statewide declarations and with the guidance of health officials, all worship services, meetings and activities at all campuses of BUMC are suspended. All are encouraged to tune in to the church's livestream Sundays at 10:45 a.m. Go to BridgeportUMC.org and click "Watch Live." 
 
BUSINESS ANNOUNCEMENTS
 
Members of the community are urged to contact businesses by phone before visiting or stay up to date about altered hours or closings through business social media platforms or Web site.

- Artworks is temporarily closed.
 
- Meagher's Irish Pub at Charles Pointe has temporarily closed. 
 
- Mountaineer Grille has temporarily closed. 
 
- With the safety of the community in mind, About You Monograms on Main Street, Bridgeport, is closed through March 27. 
 
- The Sanctuary at The Starving Artist is closed for foot traffic through March, but The Starving Artist art studio is open to groups of no more than eight. 
 
- Country Peddler is closed to gift purchase foot traffic, but Whispering Winds CBD products remain for sale at the store. 
 
- Beginning March 22, Price Cutter will close at 9 p.m. daily in order to properly sanitize and restock the store.
 
- Dollar General at The Square is closing at 9 p.m. daily in order to properly sanitize and restock the store.
