Just before 2 p.m., a Monte Carlo and utility van collided northbound on Interstate 79, after which the Monte Carlo flipped into the median and landed on its hood. The driver of the car, a 61-year-old male, was transported to United Hospital Center by Bridgeport EMS. There were no other passengers in that vehicle, said Bridgeport Police Lt. John Post. The driver of the van was unharmed. It was initially reported that there was entrapment, but the driver was easily removed from the vehicle. The Monte Carlo skid for some distance before it flipped. It is not known at this time what caused the accident. The incident, which occurred near the 123 mile marker, is under investigation by Bridgeport Police.

That collision was the third to which Bridgeport Police and Emergency Services responded today.

The first occurred just after 8 a.m. on Route 279 at Medical Park Drive.

"It was a two-vehicle accident," said Bridgeport Police Lt. D.K. Betler. "One vehicle was traveling west, turning left onto Medical Park Drive. That driver did not have a green arrow and proceeded through the intersection and as a result, was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound."

One female patient was transported, Betler said.  That incident also remains under investigation by Bridgeport Police Department.

At about 11:20 a.m., a three-vehicle accident took place on U.S. Route 50 at Emily Drive - the second accident in that location today. The first occurred at 7 a.m. and created major traffic delays. Bridgeport Police and Emergency Services were among units responding to the latter call. Both of the Emily Drive accidents are being investigated by Clarksburg Police Department.
